Britain will start training Ukrainian pilots in the summer to help them better defend their country.
Britain has announced that it will provide Ukraine with hundreds of new long-range drones capable of flying over 200 kilometers.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met at Chequers, the Prime Minister’s private residence in Buckinghamshire, south-east England, a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office Number 10 said.
Zelensky thanked Sunak for the continuous support of the British people to the Ukrainian people, the statement said:
“Prime Minister Sunak referred to the new support package announced by the UK today, including additional air defense missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. This builds on last week’s confirmation that the UK is the first country to provide Ukraine with long-range cruise missiles. Mr. Sunak reiterated that the UK will continue to support Ukraine to secure a just and lasting peace. This includes both immediate military support and longer-term security assistance to ensure Ukraine’s ability to deter attack.”
The statement added that Sunak will use his upcoming meetings with world leaders at the Council of Europe and G7 Summits to emphasize the importance of continued global support for Ukraine at this crucial time.
UK to train Ukrainian pilots
In another statement on the visit, the UK will supply Ukraine with more unmanned aerial systems, including hundreds of air defense missiles and hundreds of new long-range attack drones with a range of over 200 kilometers.
“This equipment will support Ukraine’s projected military build-up against Russian forces in the coming months,” the statement said.
It was also announced that the UK will start training Ukrainian pilots in the summer to help them better defend their country:
“This summer we will begin an initial flying phase for Ukrainian pilots to receive basic training. This training will be adapted from a program used by British pilots to give Ukrainians piloting skills they can apply in a different type of aircraft.”
Zelensky, who last visited the UK in February, visited several European countries last weekend, including Italy, Germany and France.
