The Ukrainian army continues its preparations for the great offensive with the support of Western and European states. After tanks and air defense systems, Ukraine will now buy fighter jets.
Ukraine has managed to liberate most of the occupied territories since the beginning of the war. Behind the success achieved against the Russian invaders is the military aid provided by Western and European states. Since last February 2022, NATO allies have provided Ukraine with 150 billion euros, of which 65 billion euros is military aid. This aid includes Patriot air defense systems, Leopard 2 and Challenger 2 tanks, HIMARS and howitzers, HARM, Javelin, JDAM missiles, and many state-of-the-art weapons and ammunition.
Ukrainian President Zelensky states that their biggest need is fighter jets before the big offensive they will launch against the Russian invaders. Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced that this request was finally accepted by the allied states. Reznikov said:
“Now our key task with our partners is to provide us with spare parts, maintenance, repair, and ammunition for the systems we’ve received: from sniper rifles to HIMARS and tanks. As for warplanes, I am sure we will get this issue resolved,”
Stating that fighter jets are very costly but are still needed against Russian invaders, Reznikov said that everyone is waiting for Ukraine’s victory. Reznikov added the following:
“When the Armed Forces achieved success, everyone began to believe in victory – after Snake Island, after Kyiv region, Chernihiv region, Sumy region, Kharkiv region, and Kherson. They want our next victory. It’s normal, these are all people’s emotions – expectation of success,”
Unlike the Ukrainian army, the Russian Air Force uses Soviet-era aircraft. Recently, the Russian Su-34 fighter jet ‘accidentally’ bombed the Russian city of Belgrood! At the same time, the Russian MiG-31 Foxhound fighter jet turned into a ball of flames due to engine failure and crashed!
